Despite the discovery of medications that can prevent HIV infection, 1.7 million people worldwide are still infected each year. This is primarily due to challenges around access to these medications in areas with limited health care resources.
Jake Rhodes, PhD, of Emory University received a 2023 PhRMA Foundation Postdoctoral Fellowship in Translational Medicine for his research using two biomarkers to identify individuals at significantly higher risk of HIV infection, with a goal of better prioritizing the implementation of HIV prevention measures and medications.
